January 11th, 2010 Adriana Noton If you have to wear a uniform for work, you may feel as though it stifles your creativity and prevents you from expressing your individuality. However, it doesn’t have to be this way. Although some uniforms, such as those of postal workers or police, leave less room for creativity, others, such as nursing uniforms, can definitely be adapted to reflect your personal style. There are many aspects of a uniform that you can play with. Here are some suggestions for how to do so.
Play With Color
When most people think of scrubs, they think of the traditional, drab whites, greens and blues. Scrubs are available in many other colors, and you are not limited to this dull palette. Make bold choices, like bright blues, pinks or purples. Seeing a bright color when you glimpse yourself in the mirror can lift your spirits. I find that my mood is better and my energy level is high when I am wearing bright colors that compliment my natural coloring.
Choose Patterns
You can also find scrubs printed with many different patterns. You could find a floral design that you like, or a set of scrubs printed with a favorite character. If you are a pediatric nurse, it could be fun to choose a character that is currently popular with children. Seeing a beloved character printed on your uniform might brighten a child’s day or help to establish trust between nurse and patient. It can also serve as stimulus for conversation among patients, family and coworkers.
Find the Right Fit
People often think that the cut of a uniform is not important, since it is supposed to be functional. But just like with any outfit, the cut of your scrubs could be the difference between looking frumpy and looking fabulous. Make sure that your scrubs fit comfortably, but don’t choose ones that are so huge they swallow you up. Look for cinched waists, tapered legs, and other features that make scrubs look less like sacks and more like fashionable clothes.
Mix and Match
Your uniform doesn’t necessarily have to be one color. You could wear differently colored top and pants, or put a fitted tee underneath an open shirt. Either of these things will help make your uniform more exciting.
Wear Accessories
There are many ways to make your outfit pop with accessories or makeup. Lipstick and eye-shadow colors can bring out subtle shades in your uniform. Some scrubs come with built-in accessories like waistbands that are a different color than the rest of the top, or pockets with embroidery. Although you don’t want to wear clunky jewelry (and it may even be against the rules of your office or hospital), you can choose small earrings that compliment a color in your outfit. You could also brighten it up with a small brooch or a pin worn on the collar.
A uniform does not have to crush your individuality. With a bit of work and planning, your scrubs can absolutely reflect your personal style, and getting dressed can still be a fun, creative activity.
High-quality nursing uniforms are dependable and fashionable at the same time. The right medical scrub is a great investment to consider.

The increased demand for Nurses is expected to continue, especially in the field of special needs. Nurses can be found working in such special needs areas as nursing homes, community services, pediatrics, hospices, schools, outpatient clinics, and more. Today, a career in nursing in the field of special needs is a great career choice.
People usually relate nursing to hospital care, but now opportunities in the field of patients with special needs are available for certified nursing assistants, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and nurse practitioners.
Areas of special needs that a nurse can be found working in include:
Pediatric/Obstetric Nurses: These are nurses who care for infants, children and mothers who have special needs.
Geriatric Nurses: The Geriatric Nurse provides care for the increasing number of elderly patients.
Community Health Nurses: Providing health care services for the increasing number of patients who require ongoing care in their homes and other community settings.
Private Nurse: Providing services to patients in their homes.
Critical Care/Medical-Surgical nurses: These nurses will provide care to severely ill patients.
Mental Health Nurses: These nurses will provide care to the mental and emotional needs of patients in clinics, acute care, and community settings.
A career in pediatric health care is one field for nurses that are growing in popularity and demand. This area focuses on young children with special needs. Nurses are involved in assisting children with such conditions as physical and emotional disabilities, learning disabilities, chronic illnesses. These nurses provide health care that helps children return to their daily activities. They also provide assistance and advice for parents who are having difficulties managing with their children?s problems. Sometimes, parents of handicapped children enlist the services of a nurse so that the child receives the extra care that he or she may need.
The special need area of nursing that is growing in demand is nursing homes. As the population ages, nurses are in even in greater demand. An increase in an elderly population means more nurses are needed to help them with every day living activities. Registered nurses, licensed nurses and nursing assistants can be found working in nursing homes. As well, many elderly people are living in their own home so nurses are required for home health care. This can include bathing, feeding, administering medication, exercising, and more. As well, Alzheimer patients need constant supervision and help. In these situations, a private nurse is often hired by the family. Sometimes, the family will hire a live-in nurse or have a nurse reside close to the home.
Nurses are an important part of the health care field. Their specialized and flexible attributes make them an important asset in the area of special needs. They work with other health professionals to contribute to the well being of patients and their families. Nursing is a rewarding career that is full of opportunities such as in the area of special needs.
With all the conditions that veterans face after returning home, occupational therapy jobs are an important and rewarding one. Travel nurse jobs are also interesting and in which you assist all kinds of people.
