As a devoted runner John used to spend more than an hour a day 5 times a week running. If the weather was good he used to wear his running gear and go out to Central-Park. Plantar fasciitis is a painful inflammation of a connective tissue on the foot called the plantar fascia. This tissue provides support to the foot’s arch. The injury tends to develop slowly due to repetitive stretching and tearing causing irritation and inflammation of the plantar fascia. It mostly affects one foot only, although some may feel heel pain in both feet at the same time. While the pain in the heel of the foot is usually the most severe within the first few steps once getting up of the bed or after prolonged seated position.
The condition is usually developed by people between the ages of 40 and 60 but it is also quite common in athletes and people who engage in types of exercises that put a lot of strain on the plantar fascia such as dancing and aerobics. Other factors that increase the risk of the condition include overweight, inappropriate footwear as well as thin soled shoes and shoes with high heels, and occupations that require using the feet a lot. The painful condition is a little more common in women than men.
There are a number of ways to reduce the pain of plantar fasciitis and taping is one of the most basic and efficient help methods. However, pain killers do not treat the underlying cause. For that reason taping is most efficient when combined with treatments techniques that are not meant for symptom reduction only but treat the root cause of the pain as well.
Plantar fasciitis taping is also useful as a preventive measure and may help you to reduce getting this painful condition again. As well as taping, you have to choose your footwear very wisely and make sure that it offers you good arch support along with maintain a good body weight to minimize the stress on your feet.
