A short message to the droves of Americans complaining about this video and endlessly wanking over how “great” their country is.

This video is a friendly, lighthearted parody of sickeningly patriotic “americana” musicians such as Bruce springsteen, who capitalise off american pride and in doing so, ruin the countries image.

Anyone making “OMG AMERICA R NUMBA 1 U GUISE R TEH JELOUS” comments is playing directly
into the hands of the stereotype portrayed :|

A song about the USA’s number 1 religion: Americanism. They worship it :o With a creed like the pledge of allegiance. that last thing reminds me of indoctrination. No other country will regard their nation as some sort of holy thing. OK the USA is young and infantile, but that’s no excuse is it? I’m not British, but the American revolution was the worst thing that ever happened to the USA. Canada seems to be a lot more developped in education and politics.

There’s something very Pythonesque about this sketch isn’t there? It’s very British. Anyway, it’s meant with the best of intentions and anyone who thinks otherwise just doesn’t get sillyness, which is what the Brits do best.

  13. LiamLeedsPs3 says:

    Brits?
    English mate.

  14. trumpetSL08 says:

Hugh Laurie kind of looks like Bruce Springsteen in this clip. ROFL

  15. bbBumble28 says:

He is actually a great piano player and signer… I wish they would do one where they actually had him doing something for real. AMERICA!!!!!

  16. 76juno says:

    @LiamLeedsPs3

If you exclude American born Terry Gilliam not all the remaining Pythons were English. Terry Jones was born in Wales. That’s why I said British, not English.

  17. MrPtolemysgate says:

Oh jeeze. Who.Fucking.Cares. I’m American and honestly don’t think it works either way. It’s just a fucking song. It doesn’t even have anything really to do with America. Just uses the word. So please shut up about it being offensive. And to that other guy shut up about Americans worshiping themselves. You quite obviously know nothing about actual Americans. :]
Your both playing into such stereotypical douche-bag roles it’s ridiculous.

  18. Ningyosai says:

Stephen Fry’s reaction to the song was unusually appropriate.

  19. DrCruel says:

Didn’t Trey Parker do a popular version of this tune?

  20. MsStarsea says:

Yes, that’s the point. ;) The sketch is more about Hugh making fun of Bruce and his songs than the country itself. Gotta love his brilliant prat fall at the end.

  21. fordorgnew says:

Wow! He can play the guitar and the piano so well!

  22. iwuvsweeney says:

sorry hugh, i didn’t catch that could you say it again? =P

  23. MenCap7 says:

    nope

  24. DrCruel says:

Gee. Could have sworn I heard something like this in “Team America”.

  25. HUNDuffman says:
